Telehealth — therapy by secure video or phone — has made mental health care more accessible than ever. For many people, it's the difference between getting support and putting it off.
How telehealth works
Sessions follow the same structure as in-person therapy: the same 45–60 minute length, the same therapist, and the same evidence-based approaches. You simply join from a private space using a phone, tablet, or computer.
Telehealth may be a great fit if you…
- Have a busy schedule and struggle to fit in travel time
- Have limited transportation or mobility
- Feel more comfortable opening up from home
- Want to stay consistent with care during hectic seasons of life
When in-person sessions may be better
Some people prefer the structure of coming into an office, or don't have a private space at home. Others simply connect more easily face to face. You can also combine both — whatever supports you best.
Making the most of online sessions
- Find a quiet, private spot. Headphones can help with privacy.
- Check your connection a few minutes before your session.
- Minimize distractions. Silence notifications and close other tabs.
- Treat it like an appointment. A few minutes to settle in before and after can make a difference.
